The Great Kidnapping 大誘拐 2018

Image
The three main cast of Daiyukai 2018: Okada Masaki, Fuji Sumiko, and Watabe Atsuro In which I learned that timing for release can be a major issue for a series… Friday last week, I managed to squeeze the two hours for Okada Masaki’s 大誘拐 Daiyukai  or the Great Kidnapping before watching the final SGRS episode , so I thought I better release this article. The main cast of Daiyukai 2018 are Fuji Sumiko-san as the rich lady Yanagawa Toshiko, Okada Masaki as Tonami Kenichi and Watabe Atsuro-san as Detective Ikari Daigoro. Watabe-san played with Masaki in the ST MPD Scientific Investigation Squad. He also paired up with Sato Takeru in the very funny Bitter Blood. The story revolved around Kenichi who wanted to kidnap Yanagawa-san and thus he listed his two friends. On the D-day, the trio kidnapped Yanagawa while she was sightseeing in a mountain with her aid. Itō-kun A to E: the Movie (a.k.a. “The Many Faces of Itō: the Movie”)

Although Itō is definitely not my favourite character amongst the many characters Masaki has played so far, I’m glad he took that role, because Itō – despite being a hopeless character – does extend his portfolio.

Chiisana Kyojin 2017 summary and review

Okada Masaki as the hot, secretive Yamada Haruhiko (山田春彦)  ( Update 27 Oct 2018: Thanks to RF, I have uploaded the English subtitles of Chiisana Kyojin here . Subtitles not mine; my eternal gratitude is for the very diligent subbers).  I finally finished Chiisana Kyojin (小さな巨人 , literally translated as "Little Giants"), albeit it's not yet subtitled, hence following it is rather difficult. The series is so good that I watched it twice, partly to get a better understanding of the story, and partly just to have a Masaki-festa. Okada Masaki played as another detective, but unlike when he was at the Scientific Investigation Squad (as Inspector Yurine Tomohisa), this time Yamada Haruhiko (山田春彦) was a serious detective at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. Trivia: 春彦 Haruhiko means “the lad of spring time”, hence Yamada’s name can be interpreted as “the lad of spring time that wanders around the mountains and paddy fields”. Nice, eh? I’m VERY happy that Masaki ...
